Meet the EGBI Team
Al Lopez, Executive Director
Al Lopez, Executive Director, Economic Growth Business Incubator (EGBI). Prior to joining EGBI, Lopez was a finance executive at Dell, Inc. for 11 years, most recently reporting to the company’s CFO and serving as vice president of finance for Global Services and IT organization. Previously, he spent 21 years at IBM in a host of financial management and executive positions, including two years overseas in France, after starting his career as a sales representative.
In addition to his extensive executive corporate background, Lopez has a strong history of community outreach and service. He has served with the St. John Neighborhood Association and is very involved with the John H. Reagan Early College high school AVID program that led to being named the AISD Latino Volunteer of the Year in 2012. He is also the board of directors of IDEA Public Schools, an open enrollment high performing charter school district that primarily serves lower income Hispanic students.
Lopez holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Arizona and an MBA from the University of Northern Colorado. He also previously served on the University of Texas at Austin Accounting Advisory Council for several years. He and his wife, Judy are very active at the Austin Stone Community Church and have three married children (and ten grandchildren.)
Barbra Boeta, Program Director
Ms. Barbra Boeta works closely with Mr. Lopez developing curricula, spear-heading volunteer recruitment and facilitating various components of the education programs. Prior to joining EGBI, Boeta accumulated seven years of experience in small business lending and development with PeopleFund.
She also sits on several area boards and committees, including the FDIC’s Alliance for Economic Inclusion, the City of Austin’s MBE/WBE and Small Business Advisory Committee and the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s Access to Capital Committee.
Boeta graduated with honors from St. Edward’s University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.
Nayeli Gallegos, Marketing Strategist
Nayeli Gallegos has been in the world of small business development and support for over twelve years. She assists with the expansion of EGBI’s outreach by promoting EGBI programs and services through traditional marketing, social media, media outlets, and partnership development. As Marketing Strategist for EGBI and as an entrepreneur herself, she enjoys helping small business owners develop marketing and social media strategies to achieve their business goals.
Before joining EGBI in 2012, Nayeli was Director of Economic Development for the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, working closely with small businesses for over 7 years.
Nayeli holds an MBA in Entrepreneurship from CEPADE, Universidad Politecnica de Madrid, and she graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Business Administration in International Business. In 2009, she was certified as Global Business Professional. In 2013 she Co-founded Red Carpet Productions, LLC a marketing firm specialized in the liquor industry.
Nayeli has served on the Board of the Association of Latino Professionals for America Austin Chapter, and Think Bilingual Austin. Originally from Mexico, Nayeli moved to Austin in 2002. She and her husband Luis have two girls, Andrea and Ximena.
