My name is Marcela,
I’m a self-taught Mexican painter raised in a house of artists and musicians. I grew up in Mexico City and remember visiting my mama who worked for the Secretaría de Educación Pública. On every visit, I could sit for hours looking at the history of Mexico and our people in the beautiful murals by Diego Rivera.
I paint because I love color, particularly Mexican colors of bright greens and blues and yellows. I paint landscapes, flowers, butterflies, anything that makes me feel at peace. I have painted murals for children at my church, canvases big and small and every-day objects that bring a smile to common objects. I want people to feel the same peace I feel when I am absorbed in making art.
Currently living in Austin, TX, my family and I have been in the States for almost 30 years.
